The Crisis and Resource Specialist is an integral part of The Alex Community Health Centre forming a bridge between services provided through The Alex, other agencies and the government.
The Crisis and Resource Specialist supports people in crisis, helping individuals and families connect with the agencies and services that will help them attain their goals. The Crisis and Resource Specialist is committed to empowering individuals to achieve their desired goals and visions. This is achieved through meeting with individuals to discuss their self-defined current issues and their self-defined goals, then helping them create an action plan to move them closer to the goals.
Same-day appointments may be available, and walk-in clients are accepted during clinic hours.
Assistance is available for:
- accessing government and community services,
- housing referrals,
- funding assistance,
- employment counselling,
- dealing with abusive relationships,
- addictions,
- referrals to medical and psychological services,
This position enables The Alex to respond in a timely manner to clients' needs, fulfilling our mandate of working with individuals facing barriers through a interdisciplinary team.
In 2001-02, more than 180 individuals and families were positively effected through the Crisis and Resource Specialist. Approximately 50% of the individuals served were visible minorities. Seventy-six percent of the individuals were between the ages of 18 and 64 years old
Typically, the most significant barriers people face include a lack of adequate financial resources, mental health issues, housing, addictions and abuse issues.
