Pathways to Housing is an intensely client-driven program that is based on the philosophy that clients can determine their own destinies. Pathways to Housing offers clients immediate access to an apartment of their own without requiring participation in psychiatric treatment or treatment for sobriety. Honoring clients’ choices is the fundamental principle that guides all support and clinical services. In addition, Pathways to Housing adheres to a harm reduction philosophy, believing that it is better to mitigate the harm incurred from certain
behaviors, rather than outright prohibiting them.
After settling into a new apartment, clients are offered a wide range of support and clinical services that include psychiatric and substance abuse treatment, comprehensive health care, supported employment/educational services, teaching independent living and life skills, financial management, case management, and family reconnection. Pathways to Housing
separates housing from treatment. It treats homelessness by providing people with individual apartments, and then treats other areas by intensive and individualized programs that seek out and actively work with clients as long as they need, in order to address their emotional, psychiatric, medical, and human needs, on a 24 hour, 7 days a week.
A Pathways to Housing client will have access to treatment team composed of multi-disciplinary staff. A client will have access to the following providers:
- Family physician
- Psychiatrist
- Psychologist
- Nurse
- Addictions Specialist
- Social Worker
- Occupational Therapist
- Housing Specialist
- Financial & Resource Specialist
- Program Assistant
However, even if the client chooses to decline the above treatment services, they will still be
allowed to maintain their housing and continue to be enrolled with the Pathways Housing Program.
